The exploration and application of phototrophic bacteria to increase the carbon sink capacity

Product introduction

Global warming and greenhouse gas emissions have influenced climate change. In 2015, Taiwan's "Temperature Management Law" established the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to less than 50% of 2005 levels by 2050 to decrease CO2 emissions effectively. Microorganisms are considered capable of mitigating climate change. In this study, four wild strains of purple non-sulfur bacteria (PNSB) were isolated and identified from the environment. We established a method to assess the carbon sink capacity of phototrophic bacteria. When cultured in a carbon source-free medium, strain PYX 12 was able to capture up to 2,167 μg CO2 at a concentration of 2×109 cfu. Furthermore, photosynthetic bacteria were applied in Oryza sativa pot experiments to verify their carbon sink efficiency. It was found that the group treated with photosynthetic bacteria exhibited higher biomass compared to the control. The PYX 12 strain showed a high potential for increasing carbon sink capacity.
