Application of molecular breeding technology in improving the quality performance of aquatic economic breeding seeds

Enhancing the quality performance of aquatic economic breeding seeds is crucial for the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry. The NTOU Aquatic Breeding Team has collaborated across institutions, industries, and academia for many years, fostering interdisciplinary talent and developing cutting-edge genetic technologies. Through this collaboration, advanced multiomics and molecular breeding selection techniques have been developed. These techniques have resulted in the cultivation of high-quality Taiwan tilapia strains that exhibit rapid growth, disease resistance, environmental resilience, mono-sexuality, and high flesh yield, meeting both domestic and international market demands for quality and productivity. In addition to addressing advantages such as climate change adaptation, ecological conservation, and biodiversity protection, these advancements drive technological innovation and upgrades across the entire aquaculture industry. They enhance product market competitiveness while improving overall industry efficiency and sustainability. As emerging technologies continue to advance, precision genomic breeding and gene editing tools will play a pivotal role. These tools will not only accelerate genetic improvement processes, shorten breeding cycles, and reduce breeding costs but also enable aquaculture practitioners to efficiently select superior breeds with exceptional feed conversion, nutritional metabolism, and functional value. Consequently, this will elevate aquaculture efficiency and quality standards, fostering innovation and promoting the industry's healthy development.
